A consistent theme in classic book covers is to have a large image or illustration that completely covers the page. These are normally the obvious approach and show exactly what the book is about. The book cover out of these that stood out the most was American Psycho. This was because of the use of white space. This is going to influence my design. It is a more ambiguous design meaning the person would need to pick it up and read the back to understand what it is about. There a blood stain as imagery but that doesn't give away too much detail as to what the story is about. For the penguin competition my design will take a more ambitious approach.
