OUGD403: Study Task 01 - Collaborative Branding: Global

For this task we needed to work in small group to create a new logo for the company Global. The aim of the project was to focus on typography within a logo. 

We first researched into the company and found that it was an auto-care company which specialises in  rentals and hires for vehicles.

Whilst we were researching into the company we found it was helpful to create a mind map of the companies key aspects.

 

We had to include a typeface from Vignelli's list of six:
We eliminated using a typeface with a serif because the original Global logo does not feature a serif and we wanted to maintain a clean, professional aesthetic to our logo. Fonts such as Times Roman are usually used as text type and have connotations of news print rather than a company. We chose Futura over Helvetica because the letter forms in Futura are more rounded similar to a globe so it would work in accordance with our contemporary branding. 


We then experimented with sketching out our ideas. Our first idea was to create an illustration within the letterforms which was relevant to the company for example creating a car by joining the letters with lines and curves. We then decided that was quite childish and wanted to maintain a professional look to the logo so decided to try a warehouse, garage illustration to the letter forms. 

We are going to experiment with the logo ideas in illustrator and photoshop to create a digital logo.
