Welcome To Leeds

For this task we had to work collaboratively to produce a map of Leeds which included 3 landmarks, we were given The Vintage Bookshop, The Round Foundry and the Apple Store. We also had to include our student accommodation we had two different ones within our group, Liberty Park and Sky Plaza. Finally, we had to include Leeds College of Art.

We decided to make the map very simplistic, we interpreted the brief very minimalist. We did this by created thin, fine liner drawings to convey the simplicity of the map. We visited each of the places and wanted to make it seem personalised by hand drawing and scanning in the icons to represent each place. I think it gives the map the feel we physically saw these places and it's was our journey to discover Leeds.

We also wrote the descriptions of the places by hand instead of using a hand written styled font because it adds to the personalised feel we were creating with the map.

We attempted to give the map colour similar to a map you would find in an atlas to try distinguish between the roads but thought that it looked too busy with all the different coloured lines integrating each other. We decided that if the river was blue, the person looking at the map would instantly know it's a river and that could be the point the reader finds the places from if they don't know Leeds. The river would be the central point.

This was the final outcome. I think our group worked well together to create this we all had very similar ideas of what we thought the map should look like and I think we portrayed that well as the final outcome.
