OUGD404: Study Task 09 - Bookbinding

This demonstrates a range of awareness of bookbinding. The first binding method (the black book) is called a saddle stitch where we had to fold the pages all together, consider the crop edge which means you leave around 5mm just incase you need to cut the book in for even edges. This makes you consider the positioning of the content. Then it was place in a cradle and poked three holes through to which we sowed then tied together.

The second binding (the pink book) is a Japanese stitch this consisted of sheets of paper stacked on top of each other then poked holes into using a drill machine then threaded. Vertically then around. The string could also be pushed into the spine so that it is not visible from the inside.

The final book (the light grey book) is called a Concertina which was made by gluing 7 sheets of individually folded paper together using PVA only on the edges to create an accordion like shape. Then using two bits of grey board and covering them with material then gluing those to the  rest of the pages.
